Multiple Site Logins + Notes Overhaul!

Hello again everyone! We hope you all enjoyed the holiday, your weekend, and have survived Black Friday with some wonderful deals.

Today we’d like to announce the introduction of a couple of very convenient features for our users. Previously users were unable to have multiple sessions at once on multiple devices. If a user logged in to Weasyl on their PC, and then on their phone, their PC session was logged out. Thanks to our techs we now support our users having multiple sessions at once on multiple devices. Now you can enjoy Weasyl on any device you own without having to continually log back in!

Characters and Journals!

Usually when we make a post on our features, we just highlight a single one, but today we decided to talk about two of our simpler features: Character Submissions and Journals!


Characters will be given their own submission type similar to visual submissions, making it an easy feature to utilize. Users will be able to upload reference sheets or relevant images, and will have space to provide a backstory or other written material. There will also be specific input fields so that the user can specify age, height, weight, and other relevant information.

Writing Features

Hello again everyone! In the past we’ve shown you the great features offered to both artists and users to better enjoy Weasyl and the community. Today we would like to continue in that spirit and show you all our features designed specifically with writers in mind. Please excuse our screen caps as they are a work in progress and the designs may change before the beta launch. First and foremost we’ve been working on our WYSIWYG editor.



This feature will allow writers to edit and format their works directly onto the submission page, allowing both quick fixes and the convenience of the submission going through as the writer intends, rather than dealing with formatting errors due to file types or transfers. Writers will even be able to save up to five working drafts at the same time, or ten for those with premium access. We will also be providing an on-site file converter for any writers or readers that don’t have the programs to read certain file types if they wish to download the story for later enjoyment.

Three Questions In One!

To answer your first question, yes we will have a fully-faceted groups system. However, we are still working on this feature. We will be able to provide more details about our groups system in an upcoming features post. So keep an eye out as we draw closer to the launch of the beta site!

For the second question, users will be allowed to have different accounts in order to do things like keep their general and adult work independent of one another. We understand that keeping these things separated is important to many artists, for a variety of reasons, and we respect that.

Finally, we will not be allowing icon-accounts on the site. These accounts see little use and reserve names that legitimate users may potentially want. As an alternative, we plan to offer different methods for users to post images onto their journal or pages, which ultimately will make the use of icon-accounts unnecessary on Weasyl.

tl;dr: Users will be able to upload images instead of having to register accounts to put images on their pages, separate accounts for adult work are A-OK.

Hey everyone! It’s been a little while since we’ve talked about any new features, so we thought now would be a good time to talk about some we’ve been working on. Keep in mind that these screencaps come from the old UI, as the new one is not yet fully ready.

Weasyl is not meant to solely be an ‘art site’, but more of an art community. Making new friends and reuniting with old ones should be a simple and natural process, so we’re including a friends system to help with this! On Weasyl, being friends is a mutual agreement, and unlike with followers you will only be friends with another user if you both choose to be. Users will be able to send friend requests by clicking the “friend” link on a person’s profile, and that person may either confirm or deny the request.

The Importance of Creating Together!

So today, we were asked about a feature that we feel would be very useful to the community:

Although it’s not something we intend to have ready by the beta, as we do have a lot on our plate at the moment, creating a space on the site for people to create art is something we want to do. However, if we’re going to have a drawing app in the site, we feel as though it should have the functionality of allowing other artists to draw together. We know that for many, the best way to draw together is to use openCanvas; conversely, we’re also aware that it can be a tad cumbersome, and that the web needs something simpler.

Standards & Quality Control

So over the weekend, we got a question regarding what our policy will be on policing submission quality.

We won’t be enforcing any rules that dictate whether a submission is “good enough to be posted” based on the artist’s skill level; such a judgement is very subjective, and besides that, some of our staff are self-admitted non-artists themselves. With that said, it will be necessary to exercise some control such as: requiring photographs to not be blurry or grainy, not allowing scanned images with visible scanner bed or are not rotated correctly, along with disallowing meme-type pictures with no original content, to name a few.

Essentially, our policy is to disallow objective detriments to submissions, all of which are easily fixed. If you feel as though a user’s submissions are so bad that you’d rather not see them, users will have the option to filter out submissions based on who uploaded them.

Weasyl’s Search System!

So, as some of you know, one of the principle features of Weasyl will be tag filtering, and allowing other people to tag submissions. In order for this to work, we also needed to code a search system that revolves entirely around tags, because even if you don’t care about what people don’t want to see, you still want your works to show up in search, right? Our search system is very simple to use; you need only enter the tags for content you wish to find. However, it also incorporates some extra, totally optional features that make it far more powerful.
